Lieut. (jg) Gilbert Steingart drove from his Santa Monica residence and reported to the Director Naval Officer Procurement. He passed the physical with waivers. He was 2 inches under standard height and 26 pounds overweight. The report indicates that he had brown eyes; they were hazel. Not noted was a perforated ear drum, the result of a childhood infection. His drive home took less than 45 minutes.Today the drive time would be longer.
